EN 9100

The EN 9100 family of standards is an ISO 9001 based standard with additions and interpretations specific to the aerospace industry with emphasis placed on areas deemed to have the greatest impact on safety, reliability and regulatory compliance for aerospace products.

Whether you are a stockist distributor, maintenance organisation or manufacturer working within the aerospace sector, AAI can now assist you to get the full range of certification services to AS/EN 9100, AS/EN 9110 and AS/EN 9120.

Introduction to EN 9100

How the EN 9100 = AS 9100 = JISQ 9100 was developed:

In December 1998, the Aerospace Industry had established the International Aerospace Quality Group (IAQG) with the purpose of achieving significant improvements in quality and reductions in cost throughout the value stream. This organization, with representation from Aerospace companies in America, Asia/Pacific and Europe and sponsored by SAE, SJAC, and AECMA has agreed to take responsibility for the technical contents of the “9100” standard.

What is the content of EN 9100 = AS 9100 = JISQ 9100?

  • Quality Management Systems – Requirements for Aviation, Space and Defense Organisations
  • ISO 9001 and aeronautic requirements issued by the Military and Aviation Authorities
  • In this Standard, the requirements for the procedures (Processes) in the complete Organisation have been defined
  • The introduction of this QM System (contractual requirement from all customers such as Airbus, Boeing, …) should within others also help the suppliers to have and implement a harmonised Quality Management System for all the customers

Certification Body (CB) for EN 9100/9110/9120

What is a Certification Body (CB)?

An organisation that audits and certifies/registers the quality management system of organisations with respect to published qualitiy management system standards and any supplementary documentation required under the system.

Requirements for a Certification Body regarding EN 9100/9110/9120:

  • IAQG-Standard, Basis EN9104 (Europe) for example:
    • Person with aerospace background
    • One year for ISO9001 accredited
  • Approval from the national RMS
  • Entry in to OASIS-Database
  • All requirements from the national Accreditation Body (Accreditation Body in Austria for EN9100/9110/9120 is the Federal Ministry BMWFJ).

Auditor for EN 9100/9110/9120

AQMS Auditors seeking authentication are required to meet the guidelines identified in ISO 19011 (section 7.4) and shall possess a combination of audit experience, AQMS training, Industry Specific training (as applicable), and Work Experience relative to an AQMS standard, as defined in the EN 9104-003. Remark: Sectors may use other names for ‘Auditor’, Aerospace Auditor’ (AA) and ‘Aerospace Experience Auditor’ (AEA) as long as the requirements of EN 9104 are applied. Definitions i.a.w. EN 9104-003:

  • Aerospace Auditor (AA)
  • Aerospace Experience Auditor (AEA)

Requirements for Aerospace Experience Auditors regarding EN 9100/9110/9120:

  1. IAQG-Standard, Basis EN 9104 and EN9104-003 (Europe)
  2. Authentication request to the national AAB with general data, work experience in the aerospace industry and Audit Log (for this files please contact the AAI-Office)
  3. Authentication necessary for each AQMS-Standard (EN9100, EN9110, EN9120)
  4. Approval from the national RMS
  5. Authentication shall be valid for a period of 3 years
  6. Authentication shall be entered in the OASIS-Database

OASIS Database

OASIS is the Online Aerospace Supplier Information System for Aerospace

The Aerospace industry developed an Online Aerospace Supplier Information System (OASIS) to provide an official world-wide directory of IAQG members, accreditation bodies, approved registrars, certified aerospace experienced auditors, and certified organizations.

All EN 9100/9110/9120 clients must be registered on the IAQG OASIS database after successful certification. This directory provides the added service of bringing together aerospace certified companies with potential buyers who use the database to find suppliers.
